M5 East Motorway

Maintenance Update – NOVEMBER 2015

The M5 East Motorway was closed for scheduled, essential night time maintenance work from the 22nd – 25th November. During this closure period, Ventia, on behalf NSW Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) completed all planned, preventative and corrective works as part of the extensive Motorway maintenance program. The activities carried out during the November closure period included:

  • Inspection and maintenance of emergency walkways
  • Inspection and maintenance of vehicle crossover bollards
  • Inspection and maintenance of noise walls
  • Inspection and maintenance of fire suppression/management systems, including deluge wet test
  • Inspection and cleaning of tunnel spoon drains
  • Inspection and maintenance of tunnel cross-passage air-conditioning systems
  • Landscaping, including mowing, tree trimming and weed spraying
  • Inspect tunnel over-height barriers
  • Watchdog comms repairs
  • Tunnel lighting inspection/repairs/maintenance
  • Tunnel wall panel cleaning
  • CCTV repairs and cleaning
  • Tunnel leak inspections
  • Drip tray and cable tray inspections
  • General Holmes Drive crash barrier replacement (westbound)
  • Kingsgrove crash barrier replacement (westbound)
  • Cross-passage 5 works (eastbound)
  • General Holmes Drive bridge repairs (epoxy painting)

Project work conducted during the period included:

  • Pump Pit 1 refurbishment continued (refer photos)
  • Cooks River Tunnel removable wall panel trials
