M5 East Motorway

Maintenance Update – OCTOBER 2015

The M5 East Motorway was closed for scheduled, essential night time maintenance work from the 18th – 21th October. During this closure period, Ventia, on behalf NSW Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) completed all planned, preventative and corrective works as part of the extensive Motorway maintenance program. The activities carried out during the October closure period included:

  • Inspection and maintenance of emergency walkways
  • Inspection and maintenance of energy absorbing barriers
  • Inspection and maintenance of tunnel pit covers
  • Inspection and maintenance of jet fans (main tunnel, eastbound)
  • Inspection and maintenance of fire suppression/management systems
  • Inspection and cleaning of tunnel spoon drains
  • Inspection and maintenance of tunnel cross-passage air-conditioning systems
  • Landscaping, including mowing, tree trimming and weed spraying
  • Inspect tunnel over-height barriers
  • Tunnel lighting inspection/repairs/maintenance
  • Tunnel wall panel cleaning
  • CCTV repairs and cleaning
  • Annual tunnel signage inspection
  • Annual pump-pit hydrocarbon sensor checks

Project work conducted during the period included:

  • Pump Pit 1 refurbishment works continued
  • In-tunnel air quality instrumentation replacements and commissioning
  • Cooks River Tunnel leak repairs
