M5 East Motorway

Maintenance Update – SEPTEMBER 2016

The M5 East Motorway was closed for scheduled, essential night time maintenance work from the 18th – 21st September. During this closure period, Ventia, on behalf NSW Roads & Maritime Services (RMS) completed all planned, preventative and corrective works as part of the extensive Motorway maintenance program. The activities carried out during the September closure period included:

  • Inspection and maintenance of overheight barriers
  • Inspection and maintenance of vehicle crossover bollards
  • Inspection and maintenance of energy absorbing barriers
  • Inspection and maintenance of emergency walkways
  • Inspection and maintenance of boom gates
  • Inspection and maintenance of dust collectors
  • General Holmes Drive crash barrier repair
  • Inspection and cleaning of tunnel drainage pit grates, pit covers and spoon drains
  • Landscaping, including tree trimming and litter collection
  • Tunnel lighting inspection/repairs/maintenance
  • Inspection and maintenance of tunnel air quality monitoring units
  • Resetting of NO2 scaling on in-tunnel air quality monitoring units
  • Inspection and maintenance of air conditioning units (Control Centre and Main Tunnel)
  • Inspection and maintenance of pH sensors
  • Inspection and maintenance of foam systems
  • Jet fan greasing
  • Inspection and maintenance of main axial fan motor
  • Comms failure repairs
  • Fire hose reel replacements
  • Tunnel wall panel and trash rack cleaning

Project work conducted during the period included:

  • Air supply fan SFN064 install
  • Air supply fan SFN061 extraction and removal
  • Variable Message Sign (VMS) replacements (RMS)
